What Accessories Does My New Dog Need?
When getting a new dog, be it young, old or older, you need to take into consideration that they will need plenty of dog accessories to keep them happy and entertained; essential items such as dog beds, dog food, water bowls and leads and then less essential items like toys, dog treats, carry cases and car cages. These are extra expenses that you must add to your list when calculating the overall cost.
Most, if not all, pet stores will be able to provide you with all of the necessary items to give your dog a happy new home. It may even be an idea for new dog owners to pick up a dog care guide just to give them some added information about their new family member. You can never know too much about keeping a pet dog.
More than anything else, a new dog or new puppy will first and foremost require food that is nutritional to sustain good teeth, a shiny coat and general health. This is exceptionally important for young dogs to help them grow into healthy adult dogs. Buy two bowls, one for food and one for water. If you have more than one dog, ensure they each have a bowl of their own.
Any good dog owner will tell you that dogs require walking at least once a day. If you cannot commit to giving your new puppy or new dog a daily walk, do not get a dog. They need exercise. Provide them with a collar and get a good, strong lead. Avoid chain leads if possible as they can be a choking hazard if they are not put on properly.
Puppies especially will require plenty of toys, most of which they will probably tear to pieces, so be aware that soft toys will not last very long. Plastic dog toys may well last a little longer and will provide a durable teething instrument.
